Spring Brook Farm is at the north end of White Rock Farms next door to the Whippoorwill Manor Farm a charming estate featuring a house said to be of the 1790 era.
There are 579 feet of frontage on State Road 603 at Spring Brook. The total area of the farm is 25.8 +/- acres as the depth of the property is 1917 feet. The 6.2 acres of open land form a meadow that fronts the State Road and continues then onto the property for 600 +/- feet.
This meadow is rolling, sloping upward as it moves deeper into the property. The meadow is bordered on the south by a spring fed brook.
The brook flows down a bed of granite and granite boulders creating an interesting series of falls and the enchanting music of a babbling brook. The access road for the farm enters from the State Road
near the southern boundary and meanders to the top of the meadow crossing the brook twice.
meanders through the woods finally reaching the ridge of Yowell Mountain. Hiking or riding along this trail brings the nature of the Virginia woods up close and personal. There is a great variety of native trees and vegetation, tulip poplar, white oak, red oak, chestnut oak, birch, dogwood, red bud, persimmon, cherry, beach, white pine, sassafras, black gum, sycamore, ailanthus, mountain laurel, walnut and hickory, just to name a few. Some trees are too big to reach around, towering as high as a ten story building. Edible wild berries are abundant in season and a variety of nuts fall from trees in the fall.
Wildlife is plentiful at White Rock Farms, turkey, deer, squirrel, rabbit, fox, bobcat, bear, beaver, and much more. Hiking the trails in the woods may produce a sighting of any of these critters.
Besides the turkey population there is a broad variety of bird life including but certainly not limited to red tail hawks, blue herons, red head wood peckers, blue birds, mocking birds, swallows, Canadian geese, crows, black buzzards, turkey buzzards and ducks.
Spring Brook at White Rock Farms offers a broad variety of everything to be found in a Virginia Mountain Valley Farm. This property is to be enjoyed as an investment, an operating agricultural venture, a get-a-way, a permanent home or all of the above.
